Speaker: Graham Winstanley

Background: Introduced to watching the night sky by “I Spy the Sky” as a child. Joined the Junior Astronomical Society aged 12, Liverpool AS aged 14. Acted as Hon Treasurer for Liverpool AS from 1976-1978. Moved to Lincoln in 1978 and became a committee member soon after, and currently their Secretary.
Became a member of the BAA as a teenager and contributed observations to the meteor and variable star sections. Membership lapsed when family commitments took over and rejoined in 2013. Hon Treasurer from October 2022 to date. Founded Astro Speakers in 2015 with Glyn de Lacy. My Main activity in astronomy is photography of deep sky objects from the roll-off roof observatory in our garden.

This talk is “A nostalgic tale of my progress in astrophotography from a schoolboy in the early 1960’s to the digital astro cameras of today. Brief descriptions of the equipment I have used and some of the resulting images. I also describe some of the processing software and techniques that I use today”

Speaker: Dr. Peter Lloyd

In this talk, Dr. Lloyd will explore the fascinating journey of celestial bodies, starting with the formation of stars. He will explain why our Sun is considered a third generation star, the implications of this classification, and its significance to our understanding of the cosmos.

Dr. Lloyd will also delve into the origin of the Solar System, discussing various theories regarding the Moon’s formation and why each of them has its limitations.

Peter Jenkins is an accomplished astrophotographer with extensive experience in the field:

  • Awarded FRAS in 2017
  • Shortlisted for Royal Observatory Astrophotographer of the Year in 2017 and 2018
  • Lecturer at the International Astronomy Show on four occasions
  • Speaker for the BBC Sky at Night Astrophotography Masterclass 2022
  • Speaker at the Advanced Imaging Conference 2022 in San Jose, California
  • Recognized with NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD)
  • Tutor and Ambassador for Telescope Live, working with remote telescopes in Chile, Spain, and Australia
  • Contributor to various astronomy publications, including BBC Sky at Night Magazine and Astronomy Now

Peter has given numerous talks to photographic societies and astronomy groups throughout the UK, and I am thrilled to have him share his knowledge and passion for astrophotography with us.
